Local Moving in Durham & the Triangle

Our own Durham crews, our own trucks, and a flat written price locked before we lift a box.

Bull City Movers runs local moves across Durham and the wider Triangle every week — from tobacco-district lofts downtown to the older homes around Trinity Park and Hope Valley. The same named crew that loads your boxes is the crew that drives the truck and sets everything back down at the new place.

We quote a flat written price up front, so the number you agree to on the phone is the number you pay. No hourly meter ticking while a crew member hunts for the parking dolly.

  • Licensed & insured — US DOT/MC & NC household-goods registration
  • Flat-rate written quotes, no hidden fees
  • Our own uniformed crews & trucks

Most of our work stays inside Durham County and the surrounding Triangle towns. Marcus started this company in 2013 because too many Durham movers showed up late, padded the clock, and treated a stranger’s couch like scrap. We do the opposite: a flat written price, an English-speaking W-2 crew in matching shirts, and trucks we own and maintain ourselves.

We know the access problems that slow other crews down. The freight elevators and tight dock windows at American Tobacco and West Village. The narrow second-floor stairs in Old North Durham bungalows. Street parking near Ninth Street and the Duke campus. We plan the route and the gear before the truck leaves our yard on S Miami Blvd.

What a Durham local move costs

You can book by the hour or take a flat band — most folks pick the flat price so there are no surprises. Hourly runs $129 for a two-mover crew with the truck, blankets, dollies, and tools, or $169 for a three-mover crew on bigger loads.

Home size Flat-price band
Studio $320 – $520
1-bedroom $520 – $840
2-bedroom $880 – $1,420
3-bedroom $1,480 – $2,300
4-bed house $2,100 – $3,200

A $99 deposit holds your date and comes straight off the total. Cargo coverage runs up to $1,000,000 per shipment; released-value protection is $0.60 per pound, with full-value coverage available if you want it.

What is not included

So the written price stays honest, a few things sit outside the base quote and we flag them before you sign.

  • Packing materials and pack-up labor (we offer that as a separate full-pack or partial-pack add-on).
  • Piano, gun safe, or other specialty items — from $349 depending on weight and stairs.
  • Long carries or a second truck shuttle when a moving van can’t reach the door, common on tight downtown loft blocks.
  • Disposal or donation runs for items you are leaving behind.

Tell our estimator Cody about any of these on the call and they go into the written quote, not onto a surprise invoice.

What’s included

Common questions

Do you charge by the hour or a flat rate for local Durham moves?
Either, and most customers choose the flat band. Hourly is $129 for a two-mover crew with the truck or $169 for three movers. The flat price is written down before move day and does not change unless you add items, so there is no meter running while we work.
How far ahead should I book a move in the Triangle?
A week or two is comfortable, and longer in the busy stretch around the end of the month and Duke’s academic turnover. A $99 deposit locks your date and applies to your total. If you need us this week, call and we will tell you honestly what we can do.
Can you handle a downtown loft with a freight elevator and a dock window?
Yes. We move in and out of American Tobacco, Brightleaf, and West Village regularly, so we know how to reserve the freight elevator, work inside a dock time slot, and protect shared hallways. Give us the building name and we will plan the gear and crew size around it.
Are you actually the movers, or do you hand the job to someone else?
We are the movers. Bull City Movers owns the trucks and employs the crews, with US DOT and MC authority plus North Carolina Utilities Commission household-goods registration on file. The crew you meet is on our payroll — we are not a broker or a matching service.
